SUMMER STRAWBERRIES

I have suddenly become addicted to strawberries again, obviously they are a British summertime staple, but this indulgence came from a recent strawberry picking adventure in Cyprus. The beach side strawberry farm was fully of honey sweet delights that were kept lovingly protected under plastic greenhouses, raised up in beds above the ground so they could hang downwards, far away from any insects or other beasts. The trick and joy of strawberry picking really is eating as much as you can before you actually pay for the comparably small portion you come out with.

How I grow mine: Shopping at a vintage market, I bought these two boot boxes and protected them with wood stain. I lined them both with plastic and made a few holes in it so the water can drain. Filled with good soil and planted my crop. I have placed them on the shed roof to ripen away from any nasty slugs.

It seems Im not the only one addicted to strawberries this summer, I love these retro style fruit boxes from .comgiftshop ( click on image), the strawberry one of course is my favourite!
