JEAN-JAQUES ROGERS - SS11 SCARVES

No comments:

Pretty, pretty, pretty! Love the contrast of the insect prints with the delicate silk scarves. JJR Studied at St Martins ( hello fellow alumni!) before working with a pedigree of couture houses including  Givenchy, Chanel, Lanvin and Balmain. He set up his own brand in 1999 creating beautiful accessories for the feminine modern woman. This collection is so lovely & is perfect to wear from day to night over those summer months... the butterfly print is defiantly on my wish list! For more info see the Jean-Jaques Rogers website.

ILLUSTRATOR OF THE DAY #0001 - ALED LEWIS

No comments:

These are hillarious, there is a great skill in writing one liners.... I think Aled & Jimmy Carr should join forces & do a book, now that would be funny. Make sure to have a look at Aled's website, his design work is pretty damn clever too. Big fan Mr Lewis!

PHOTO OF THE DAY #001 - MOSCOW IN THE 1930s

No comments:

I found this selection of photos on the Vintage Everyday blog, they are stunning. I absolutely love magic lantern slides, and have a bit of a collection of my own. They are a doorway into history. Before we had film, in the Victorian era, often there would be Magic Lantern Slideshows as entertainment, where a piano player would be the music accompaniment to a slide show. Commonly the slides were cartoons or photographs, they could tell a story or be educational; I have a collection of beautiful sides of birds & fish from the early 1900s. You can often buy them on ebay, however the good ones do get expensive, so its best to get them at car boot sales & charity shops.

SAINSBURYS WEDDING CAKE ICE CREAM

1 comment:
Browsing through the Metro this morning, I turned to a Sainsbury’s DPS advert and to my glee I saw this wedding cake ice cream! A-ma-ze-balls! Why has no one told me of this ingenious invention earlier? Now those who know me know I have a sweet tooth, not quite as sweet as my mothers; who literally can floor me with her chocolate intake, scrap that her intake of sugar dipped in butter….I know!
Back to the ice cream, I must try this, it may be disgusting or quite possibly be up there with the rum and raisin clotted cream they already produce…yummy...Sainsbury’s East Dulwich here I come!

TASTE TEST UPDATE: Although there have been mixed opinions on the twittersphere I rather liked it. Point’s wise 7/10 which is defiantly above average. However, I have an uncanny feeling it tastes a lot like Christmas Cake ice-cream, I wonder what would happen if I peeled back the label... a red sticker with a Christmas pud on it I expect!

MINI SET OF LONDON

No comments:

When I received my lovely copy of the BA High Life Magazine today I was hoping someone had secretly booked me a holiday... but no. On the plus side, there is my little model of london I made for Mini inside. Really pleased with it, and if you look hard you may see a little Alice holding a balloon.

QUENTIN BLAKE for OSBORNE & LITTLE

No comments:

So excited to be made aware of this by Mr Craig! As a huge fan of Osborne and Little ... have a black flock by them in my dining room... its no surprise that this came as a delight to my eyes. The new perfectly named Zagazoo range has a selection of brilliantly vibrant designs. Why not try the Zagazoo, Cockatoos in your loo... I think the alphabet print is my favourite, at a glance it looks like a traditional toile de jouy... on closer inspection you will discover all sorts of Legs & Yaks!

CROSS STITCH WILLIAM & CATE something to make you giggle on a friday afternoon!

No comments:

Wow! Yes its real, you can create your very own tapestry extravaganza with this rather remarkable keep sake. Why not lovingly stitch the white teeth of the happy couple whilst dreaming of the fairytale wedding ...and all only for £34.99....the only thing I think would make it unimaginably amazing would if the soft glow was in the form of a dreamy heart! he he he! x

MAGNETIC MONSTERS by Hannah Rollings

No comments:

I am so drawn to these naieve illustrations, perhaps its the bright colours or the comical expressions. They seem to have a life of their own... you can almost see them walk across the page and grunt at you!

Young illustratior Hannah ( great name) Rowlings won the student V&A award in 2007 & this is how I found her work, as I have entered the book illustration award myself for Everything Alice. Check out her website, the rest of her work is scratchy, childlike & playfull...love it.

The Crimson Petal and the White - A LITTLE HURAH! FOR THE UNSUNG FILM HEROES - SET DECORATORS & PROPS BUYERS!

No comments:

Having spent most of my early 20s on one film or tv set or another, I am acquainted with the inner workings of the movie machine. There are so many jobs that go under the radar of the public, that are not recognised which have equal importance to the overall appearance of the piece.

GET YOUR PENCILS SHARPENED for JENNIFER MAESTRE

No comments:

These sculptures are breathtaking, inspired by the form of sea urchins as she describes them " dangerous and beautiful" ( which is how my husband describes me when I'm on the rampage for my after dinner chocolate fix!). To find out more about Jennifer click here. There is something of the Alien film cocoons in her Asteridae peice which makes me uneasy: I visited the very odd HR Giger museum in Switzerland last year which contains all of his Alien artwork and much more ( a very odd room behind a red curtain, those of you who have been will know what I am taking about)  there were some peices of disturbing art in there which will never leave me...ooh shivers...

No comments:
This autumn/ winter '11 sees a huge trend for everything 60s & colour block, but why not introduce this theme early to your party table? Its great for a spring/ summer theme too, perhaps for your easter table? Think pinks, greens, yellows, oranges, turquoise with black accents.
